Despite the very casual counter-ordering service and simple interior, the food at RedRock is consistently impressive. That said, the most popular and iconic dish at RedRock is without a doubt the sliced roast beef don. I went to at least three steak places that tried to replicate Chuck’s down to the nth degree…and they usually managed to get everything right except for that rice. In the late 1940's, Florence Hanna began baking bread, onion rolls, cakes and pies in an effort to deliver the freshest, highest of quality baked goods to her customers. Today, the tradition continues, the staff at Ken's Steak House spend long hours creating a showcase of fine quality baked goods. Growth of Ken's Steak House, originally known as the 41 Cafe, began almost immediately with the addition of the Fireplace Room in 1941.

If you have never been to Mastro’s Steakhouse, you are missing out on one of the best high-end steakhouses in Los Angeles. The main draw is an eight-ounce filet, bone-in tomahawk, but the wagyu flight showcasing two-ounce portions from the US, Australia, and Japan is equally great. Backed by heavy hitters like Dr. Dre and NBA legend Jerry West, this Sherman Oaks steakhouse opened in November 2023. Try the petit filets, dry-aged 42-ounce tomahawk steak, or choose from three different types of wagyu. Order the caprese-inspired martini shaken with Grey Goose, Campari, tomato simple syrup, and sherry vinegar, and garnished with fresh mozzarella, and enjoy the entire meal.

The prime rib is still the draw here, though the outrageously neon interior is its own reason to go. Or, rather, reverts back to the 1950’s, when Baked Alaska, pepper steaks and hand-spun salads hit each table, and the room looks like a plastic jungle of fake foliage. The decor hasn’t changed much since then, and the waiters still wear those bright red jackets, but for pure charm (and a great bar), it’s hard to beat.

Sakura Japanese Steak & Seafood House is a bit off the beaten path but definitely worth the trek. This traditional teppanyaki dining experience is communal, meaning that all of your guests must be present in order to be seated at your table. The signature omakase features three different Wagyu appetizers followed by tongue and harami from the U.S. and a variety of Yazawa Wagyu. The chef omakase is pretty much the same as the signature menu but also includes a wonderful filet mignon course at the end.
